Bye Bye Winter

IMG 1736

I can honestly say I am not going to miss winter.  I enjoy snow as much as the next person, but I’m telling you I’m done.

Fortunately there are signs that Spring is just around the corner.  This past weekend the weather finally rose high enough above 32º, causing the 2 feet of snow in my backyard began to melt.  While there is still a long way to go, patches of grass began to appeared, and like magic — so did the deer.  I counted over 20 of them roaming across the backyard feasting on the exposed grass.  It was quite a special moment.

Hoping you are finding your own special “Spring” like moments.

Happy 2015!

Welcome to another great year! 2014 was filled with challenging obstacles resulting in some pretty amazing solutions. All things considered I felt it was a fantastic year. Hope you felt the same.

As I look forward, I wanted to wish everyone a healthy & happy 2015!!

A Dog Owner’s Mourning Prayer

A Dog Owner’s Mourning PrayerWritten by Oliver Siodmak (September 9th, 2013)

I must have left my heart with you when we were last together
On the bench where we used to sit,
Near the field where we used to play.

My soul is aching as I think back and remember
All those good times we spent together,
Oh how you used to run and jump and play.

You are in a better place, I know that now,
But oh that empty space in my chest still hurts,
My tear-filled eyes find it difficult to see.

Saddened I must continue my life’s journey without you,
Memories of us together give me strength to carry on.

So please hold on to my heart,
Keep it with you safe from harm.

I’ll take it back when we are once again united,
    Up in heaven’s waiting arms.

It is with a very heavy heart I must share with you that Chestnut passed away on Monday, September 9th, 2013 at the age of 14. He was a simply amazing dog and words fail to describe just how much he meant to us as well as many of you.

Sharon, Jake and I are heartbroken by the loss, but we are so grateful we were able to spend his final hours together as a family. The words for “A Dog Owner’s Mourning Prayer” 1st came to me the night he left us. It has taken me several days to deal with the loss and the words to express my feelings.  The pain is far from gone but writing this poem has helped me deal with the overwhelming sadness.

If you have ever lost a pet I hope this prayer gives you comfort.  Chestnut was my muse, my love, my 1st little boy.

Oliver & Chestnut
I have posted a collection of photos of our life together on my
Facebook page, as well as on Flickr.  This album contains pictures from his 1st days with us in early July 1999 until his last. When I started to put the album together it was to help me grieve, but it was also to help me remember all the good times we had. The more pictures I discovered the more I felt they needed to be included in the album. There are 92 in all and each one hold a special meaning in my heart.

I hope you spend a few minutes looking though these special moments, for as long as he is remembered … he will always be with us.

Another year has come and gone and what a year it has been.  This year has brought me great success and significant loss.  Through it all however, I believe each experience has brought me and my family closer together.

I wish you and your family a very happy holiday season and hope the new year brings you great joy and happiness.

All the Best!

Buying a coffin online?

I help customers build a lot of commerce web sites; Panasonic, Maghound, eTopps; WSJ, FT to name just a few. So for that reason I spend a lot of time online looking at various commerce web sites. Most of the time I don’t really focus on the particular products but the user experience around how a given product is presented. Then I saw this little gem on

Now I’ve thought of many “do-it-yourself” projects over the years. Norm Abrams is like a god to me. But I have never considered building a coffin for myself or a loved one. While it is really just another wood project I would have to think you can’t just show up at the funeral home with your own box. If you could, we’d all do it. Hell, Home Depot would have a whole section devoted it to it. Could you just imagine the in-store workshops!

I’ll do some research to see if this is legal in my area. If it is I’m going to order the kit and schedule it as the next “father/son” project. We can cover proper use of hand tools and death at the same time!

BTW .. take a moment to read through the user generated comments posted to this product. They are well worth taking a moment to read!
